This weekend it was the much anticipated Sola Airshow 2007, celebrating 70 years of the airport. I`d been looking forward to it for nearly a year now and it did`nt disappoint one bit, two great days of flying and the weather was good, almost too good!

Myself and Eirin had very important roles, liasing with the press and VIP parking! Thankfully we weren`t worked too hard at all, and manage to see all the show for the two days as well as wander around the static displays snapping away while Joe Public was still outside.

As for the flying, the most impressive machines had to be the Mustang (what a noise that makes), the JAS Gripen and the combined F5/F-16 display. They also had the Swiss F5 display team which although very impressive indeed, didn`t really have the best names for their formations - not sure how you can do the "Roger Federer" or the "milking a cow" formation....but seemingly they did! I was also impressed with the Pitts Python and the Polish aero`s champion in the Extra, very good indeed and heightened my hunger for some aero`s action soon! The Catalina was here from Duxford, I was tempted for the share in her that they were selling, until i found out it cost £17,000 lol. The list goes on and and on, and there are some great photos
here, much better then my feeble efforts!

Hopefully the flying club made some money out of the weekend as there was an army of volunteers helping around the place. It really was a great weekend, and I even manage to chat up these two hot "flygirls"........

Last night the need for air time got the better of me and after all that excitement I took JAL up for a spin with a work colleague. We buzzed a few houses and went into the fjords. It was good to be up again, as I had been taking it easy since the states......and I now need to focus on my next flying challenge!

So what's this "next flying challenge" you speak of? Looks like the weather cleared up nicely for the weekend, and not a moment too soon.
Would have liked to see a pic of you on that Quad bike...hahaha.
Good to hear you enjoyed yourself old bean.
Out.
Think a shot at the Saab`s, but seemingly one is bust, so maybe not for a while!
Or, planning our next sortie?
Wonder the Nimrod was still in one piece after all those spectators filing through, apparently they are just about ready to fall out of the sky as they are now so old.
Well this one had seen better days inside, but its still a great plane to look at!
We're planning a Saab intro day in the club, with a BBQ to follow. Part of our collaboration with SFFK. Stay tuned to solaflyklubb.no for more info ;-)
Sounds good to me. Put my name down!
So what's the next challenge then? The Saab? Of France? Or something different?
Looks like a great weekend, and well organised affair. Good work. So will they do it again next year?
Just checked out the photo gallery as well...quality! How many spectators and aircraft were there? It looks like a popular show.
Think there was 30,000 in total which was a really good turn out and a large number of aircraft both flying and static!
New challenge - watch this space!
Will we put on another airshow next year? Doubtful. It takes a few years for us to forget the pain of planning such an event. Kind of like giving birth, or so I'm told :-) Anyways, in order to get display teams, you need to start planning at least 1 1/2 - 2 years in advance.
We usually put on a small airshow every other year, and a large one every 4 years. The next larger one will likely be in 2012, for the airport's 75th anniversary. But then what do we do with the air force's 70th anniversary in 2014? And in 2009, when it's 100 years since our national air sports federation was founded? That'll provide a massive airshow in the Oslo area I bet, although I'd like to give them some competition. Maybe my new employer will hire me out to the airshow planners as a consultant :-) Doubtful, but can always hope!
Oh: More than 30 000 spectators (based on tickets sold, not actual people, so a family of four counts as one), 33 programme elements (some with several aircraft), and I believe between 60-80 aircraft on display.
Thanks for that Batwoman, and cracking work on organising such a successful air show.
