Yeah Vegas Baby!

Not got much time to blog, cos all the sights and sounds of Vegas await! But we made it. Two long flights. We left Livermore at 09.15 and it took a good 2 hours 45mins to make it to our first port of call a small airport south of Mojave called General Fox! A quick stop there included a nice fry up and soon we were on our way again. The first leg was over 200nm and was smooth as silk, but the next leg to Vegas itself was very turbulent and bumpy. Claython did all the nav and radio and I did the flying (i think i got the better deal as he was chatting to a lot of controllers!).
In the states you can request a service called Flight Following, which basically means that someone somewhere is watching an eye on you. A handy thing to have especially considering some of the terrain we flew over!
As we entered Vegas airspace we got the option to vector across the numbers at McCarren, but I choose to find our on way in. Which in the end worked well. Vegas is blowy and everyone knows I dont like x-wind landings, so as i tuned final to R25 a call from the tower told my that i was looking at a 17kt x-wind (above the planes limits). Luckily they had an alternate and a quick decision meant we could get into R12....had to slip it mind you but got down after a little bounce. Once parked we were met by a van and a helpful guy gave us a hand with the bags and we checked in to the terminal....very smooth indeed! We then hired a car and drove down the strip and tonight we`ll see what all the fuss is about!

UPDATE: We did the thrill rides on the stratosphere, unfortunately they arent the same now that i`m accustomed at staring at the ground from 2000ft! And especially after doing aeros last week! Speed at the Sahara is still by far the best ride here!

Tomorrow the Canyon!

Congratulations on a very successful first leg of the trip. Hope you had a cracking night in Vegas.

So what's the deal with the flying? Do you alternate the controls vs nav and comms and does this all go into your log books?

We both log time as Pilot in Command as have dual duties!

Bit tired for a heavy night, but did the new rides on the Stratosphere, and the Speed one at the Sahara is still the best!

So have all those crosswind landings at ENZV helped hone your crosswind skills? :-)
